Even though the worst of the recent flood damage in the UK may not yet be over, mopping up has begun on those properties that were caught over the Christmas period.
For some, a good scrub down and a soaking in bleach may be all the remedial action that is taken. However, flood waters bring with them all sorts of very nasty contaminants and simply creating a semblance of normality may leave behind a legacy that could result in some very unpleasant medical conditions, such as asthma or other respiratory difficulties.
When selling a property, not only will you have to disclose that you have suffered a flood loss, but if you cannot prove that your property has been professionally decontaminated, this could affect the resale value of your home.
The PAS Code of Conduct was financed by the Government Environment Agency and has been prepared after liaison with various specialist consultants and companies (including our Partners Cunningham Lindsey). It provides contractors with guidelines and standards that enable customers to know with confidence that decontamination and drying of their properties has been carried out to an adequate degree.
